Newman Popiashvili Gallery and Alexander Lee are pleased to announce the final performance for The Tupaupau Within
The performance will close Lee’s workshop project at the gallery and will present segments of a five part opera he has been writing with Music Composer Keith Moore. The Tupaupau Within takes roots in a creation myth from Tahiti, as an anthropic tale of transformation and survival, told through reading, singing, and music, as well as drawing, painting, sculpture, and other tools in contemporary practice.

Guest performers for the event:
Actor: Gabriel Romero; Vocalist: Juliana Snapper; Ensemble: PRISM Quartet (Matthew Levy, Timothy McAllister, Zach Shemon, and Taimur Sullivan); and surprise performers

Contributors to the project:
Actors: Cédric Eeckhout, Johnny Blitstein; Ensemble: The University of North Carolina School of the Arts Saxophone MOB (Chris Bravo, Will Conlin, Shane Rathburn, Ben Robinette, Nick Statzer, Matt Hess, studying under Taimur Sullivan); Reader: Heather Delaney; Video and Editing: Richard Davis, Brian C. Griffin

Note: Keeping with the experimental nature of the project, the evening’s event will be presented as a reading and the audience is invited to be present for the duration of the program.
